  • Rheumatism, looking for a new balance.

If you suffer from pain or stiffness in certain joints or muscles for a longer period of time, or if you experience swelling in certain joints, that can mean that you suffer from a form of rheumatism. There are many different forms, each with its own way of showing itself. Well known forms of rheumatism are rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. With the right treatment your symptoms can decrease and you can learn to deal with your condition. It is true that good and bad spells will keep alternating. By cooperation within the so called ‘Rheumatism network’ the treatment will always be well coordinated.

Causes & complaints

When you suffer from rheumatism you can experience inflammations or overloading. This can result in pain and stiffness in joints and muscles. You cannot move as well as you would like and you experience limitations in your daily life. There can also be the issue of tiredness or listlessness. Rheumatism has a changeable course: one day everything seems fine, the other day trying to lift a simple cup is already painful. Pain makes you want to be less active and that causes stiffness. Rheumatism can evoke questions, doubts, and powerlessness. It means you need to learn to deal with all the emotions that come with your illness. Often you need to adapt your way of life.

Treatment

It is vital to keep your body flexible and in good shape. The specialized physiotherapist can help you with this. He or she first and foremost makes sure that the most serious limitations in movement disappear. He or she also does a check-up to establish your physical condition, your muscle power and mobility and makes clear how much your body can still bear. A tailor made treatment/exercise programme will be made for you, tuned to the targets you want to set for yourself. If possible you take part in an exercise group of people suffering from rheumatism. And of course you will take home your own exercises to do at home.

Results

Although rheumatism is a chronic illness, physiotherapy is an excellent resource to get or keep your physical condition, your muscle power and flexibility at a good level. The goal is always to help you find an optimum in the way you can perform, both at home as in your work or during sporting activities. Our experience that it works positively when companions share their experiences. Participating in the rheumatism network keeps the communication direct and the physiotherapist can consult or involve other specialists who know a lot about your condition.

Physiotherapist, Sportphysiotherapist. Born on November 22th 1987 and employed by M-Visio since 2018.

Specializations In January 2018 I graduated from the master pregramme for sport physiotherapist. Apart from that I followed a course in Medical Taping.
Career After my graduation in 2011 as a physiotherapist, I started my career in two private practises in Arnhem, where I also live. During that time I frequently substituted for colleagues on maternity leave and during holidays. My next step was the switch to a private practice in. I worked there for 3,5 years when I was given the wonderful opportunity to start at M-Visio.
M-Visio for me is an enjoyable, specialized workplace with a great atmosphere where there is attention for the client and for each other.
My passion for my work is in (actively) helping people, motivate and stimulate them and working together for a great result.
Most satisfaction I get from being able to transfer my knowledge and expertise, so that people can understand their disorders and can get the feeling that they have these disorders and the possible treatment in their own hands. That they reach their targets and become confident in achieving their goals.
My ambitions are in develop as a sports physiotherapist, both in knowledge and in skills. I do that by following relevant courses, but also by staying on top in the field, applying it in my work and sharing with my colleagues.
In my spare time I like being active: running, biking, working out, hiking, swimming and several workout trainings, like body combat and body balance… I have to, since I also like nice and good food and dining out!
